Train Station Cafe Brings European Atmosphere To Tenafly

TENAFLY, N.J. — Cafe Angelique Owner Isaac Benavraham always thought Tenafly's train station would make a good coffee shop.

The train station at the center of town hasn't operated since the 1960s. Before it was a cafe the location was used as a hair salon.

Benavraham had bigger ambitions for the unused station.

Before owning Cafe Angelique, he worked at high-end clothing boutique Scoop in New York City. His work was successful but he kept thinking about the potential coffee shop.

"I was at a Friday night dinner with friends in Tenafly and they told me that this place is for rent. I couldn’t sleep the whole weekend," Benavraham recalled.

"It was a dream come true."

The train station location may be a fitting metaphor for Cafe Angelique, which does its best to transport a European Atmosphere and Manhattan-quality goods to Tenafly.

Benavraham was inspired by coffee shops in Vienna and Paris for the look of his cafe.

Most of the pastries and bread comes fresh from Manhattan bakeries every morning.

Benavraham said training his staff so they provide high-quality satisfaction is an important point for the cafe.

Cafe Angelique is located at 1 Piermont Rd in Tenafly.
